Blades of Fire

Blades of Fire – a dark fantasy action game from MercurySteam, the creators of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metroid Dread. The game was released in May 2025 with the support of 505 Games, and was released on Steam with the 2.0 update. Weapons aren't dropped by enemies: the hero forges each blade himself.

A world where steel became stone

Queen Nerea cursed all metal in the kingdom, turning it to stone. The only one who can still forge steel is Aran de Lira. He travels with Adso, a young scribe who records legends and lore about the world and also knows how to enchant weapons. The story is told primarily through dialogue and found recordings; cutscenes are few.

Forge instead of loot

Before combat, you decide what kind of weapon you want — sword, axe, spear, or hammer — as well as its parts and the material they're made from. This determines the weapon's weight, length, damage, and stamina consumption. Forging takes place in a separate minigame, and the more carefully you hammer, the better the blade. There's no endless supply of trophy swords, so a single successful weapon lasts a long time, and sometimes it's easier to forge a new one for a specific enemy.

Slow and hard fighting

Combat is closer to a Souls-like than a slasher. Attacks are directional: headshot, body, left, or right, and enemies have armor that isn't penetrated by every weapon. Over fifty enemy types require different approaches. Version 2.0 added New Game+, Titan difficulty, a boss replay mode, photo mode, and material type switching. The name is similar to Blades of Time, but it's a different game: that one was released in 2012 by Gaijin Entertainment, and it follows the treasure hunter Ayumi.
