Survival

Survival is a genre where the enemy isn't just monsters or other players, but the environment itself: hunger, cold, thirst, and a lack of resources can kill faster than any opponent. Every item found is valuable, and every foray for supplies becomes a mini-adventure with real risk.

From the wild to the post-apocalypse
Some games drop the hero on a desert island with only an axe in hand, others transport them to a ruined city after a catastrophe, and still others add multiplayer servers where the threat is not only the environment but also other survivors. Crafting, base building, and resource management are common features across almost all games in this genre.
