Blades of Time – a slasher from the Russian studio Gaijin Entertainment, released on PC in April 2012, shortly after the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions. It's a reboot and sequel to 2007's X-Blades, and features the same main character: the dual-bladed treasure hunter Ayumi.
An island captured by Chaos
Ayumi finds herself on a dangerous island overwhelmed by Chaos magic. She set out to find treasure, but now she must fight her way through monsters, traps, and villains just to escape. Along the way, the heroine discovers hidden powers within herself. The island is large and diverse, and besides enemies, it's full of hidden treasures and valuable trophies.
Rewind time
The game's main feature is Ayumi's ability to rewind time. This creates a clone of herself that repeats the heroine's last actions. This allows for a dual-wielding attack on an enemy or to solve a puzzle that requires pressing several mechanisms simultaneously. A dash attack helps quickly close the distance to an enemy and evade attacks. There are over forty skills: strikes, combos, and two schools of magic, Order and Chaos. In addition to blades, the arsenal also includes firearms.
Differences from X-Blades and Blades of Fire
X-Blades HD from the same site tells about the first adventures of Ayumi, and Blades of Time develops the idea and adds time rewind and online play: it features co-op and PvP. Blades of Fire, despite its similar name, is not part of the series; it's a 2025 game about a blacksmith from another studio. Critics met it with Blades of Time In a restrained manner, the PC version received the highest ratings.
