Turn-based strategy gives you time to think: you make a move, then your opponent does. You can calmly calculate your attack, economic development, and diplomacy without fear of someone else getting there first. The genre encompasses both grand global strategies where you build an entire civilization and compact tactical battles between squads.
The strategy encompasses everything — the economy, development, armies, and the world map. Turn-based tactics focus on individual battles and squads, like in XCOM.
What is 4X?These are large-scale strategies based on the "explore, expand, exploit, destroy" principle — in the spirit of Civilization. They have their own "4X" label.
