Global strategies

Grand strategy games put players in control of an entire state or empire on the world map, encompassing its economy, military, diplomacy, science, and domestic politics. A single game can span centuries, and decisions are made on a continental scale. This genre includes historical strategies like Europa Universalis, the turn-based Civilization, and the Total War series with its massive battles.
