In an autobattler, you don't directly control the battle: you assemble a squad, choose hero combinations, and deploy them on the field, while the battle unfolds automatically. Between battles, you purchase new units and upgrades, and the key is finding a team that complements each other. The genre grew out of Dota Auto Chess and is now also found in single-player roguelikes.
