Arcante: Definitive Edition

Arcante: Definitive Edition – a party-based first-person RPG in an old-school style, released on December 10, 2021. The author, independent developer Luca Favano (the game is listed on Steam as belonging to the Haphazardly studio), was inspired by classics of the genre: there's a lot of exploration and hints from the inhabitants, and combat combines hero control with turn-based combat.

Squad and equipment

The party is made up of mercenaries. They can be hired, trained, taught new skills, and equipped individually. There are five classes, twenty abilities, and thousands of equipment options: four armor types, fifteen weapons, and color-coded items. Eight animated portraits are used to create the team's appearance. Equipment can be found in dungeons and caches or purchased from merchants.

Real-time or turn-based combat

You see through the eyes of your party and control them in first-person, with party members taking turns attacking. If the pace seems too fast, you can press Enter at any time to switch to turn-based mode and calmly choose your actions. Much of the game isn't explained upfront: mechanics are revealed gradually, and helpful hints are provided by villagers, so it's important to speak carefully with NPCs. The world is full of hidden treasures, secrets, dungeons, and dragons.

What's new in the Definitive Edition?

This is a reworked version that incorporates all the changes based on player feedback. Graphics have been improved, the interface has been made clearer, and new maps and missions have been added. Combat has been deepened, with the addition of dodge, block, interrupt, and shields. After the first playthrough, a challenge mode in the original style unlocks, allowing players to begin a new game with a squad of one to four heroes.
