Piece Of Mind – an open-world survival simulator from the small studio Rig Studio, released in early access in 2021. The action takes place on a large island with predators and armed soldiers, and you're constantly accompanied by a dog you must care for as much as you care for yourself.
A dog as a partner
The dog isn't just a decoration here. It protects its owner and warns of danger, but it also needs food and treatment. Resources have to be shared, and if the dog dies, you lose a significant portion of your protection. Because of this, every find is doubly valuable: you can eat the extra piece of meat yourself, or you can give it to your partner so they can live until another day.
Body, weather and diseases
The hero has many stats: hunger, thirst, fatigue, stamina, health, and blood level. Gunshots, knife wounds, or a predator bite immediately reduce both health and blood, and significant blood loss is fatal. Snakes and insects act differently: a snake bite is poisonous, but doesn't directly reduce health, so the underlying cause must be treated. Temperature varies depending on the climate, time of day, and season. It's best to cook food: not only does this ensure satiety, but it also protects against certain diseases.
The Island and the Soldiers
The island is divided into distinct areas, and danger looms both on land and in the water: there are plenty of predatory animals on land, and the sea has its own hunters. Humans pose a distinct threat. Squads of soldiers armed with tactical weapons roam the island, using guerrilla tactics to keep you on your toes. You can shoot from either first- or third-person perspectives. The game is being developed by two people, and in Early Access, it remains somewhat unfinished, with potential balance and performance issues.
