Twas The Night – a small Christmas management simulator from the indie studio Mayham Games, released exactly on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024. You play as Santa Claus and build a toy factory at the North Pole, starting with wooden crafts and eventually expanding to futuristic technology.
The spirit of Christmas instead of money
There's no traditional currency in the game. The only currency is the Christmas Spirit, brought to you by those who believe in Santa. This currency is used to build new workshops, purchase upgrades, and introduce Traditions that will last a long time. If the Spirit runs out, Santa simply ceases to exist, so every investment must be carefully considered. Workshops are located on an isometric map, and their number increases with the number of children's wishes.
Polar night and letters
The game's year is divided according to the polar cycle. There are approximately 265 days until Christmas, and during the dark season, letters arrive with children's wishes. Production must be adjusted to fulfill them all: completing a full list before Christmas Eve earns a Spirit bonus. The days fly by, so there's no time to ponder every decision. On Christmas morning, a final report arrives showing how the season went.
Off-season
Surviving Christmas isn't enough. After the holiday, there are no letters for the first hundred days of the new year, and production is at a standstill. This time is set aside for upgrades and repairs to speed up the factory's operations for the next season. The music is taken from the open source Pixabay library, and some of the icons were created using the DALL·E neural network, as they clearly state on the Steam page. The game takes up less than a gigabyte of space, so it's easy to download. Twas The Night You can download it to your PC via torrent in just a couple of minutes.
