Amidst The Darkness

Amidst The Darkness – a short, first-person, one-shot survival horror game, released on March 24, 2022. A wounded hero is dragged into dilapidated workers' barracks, inhabited by a sadistic creature nicknamed The Creature, and must escape on the first try.

Barracks and collectors

The task is simple: find a way out. To do this, you'll have to search abandoned halls, utility rooms, and the sewers beneath them. The atmosphere is dark and oppressive, and along the way, you'll encounter puzzles that will require you to proceed. The creature follows you the entire time. It doesn't rush in immediately, but gradually closes the distance, and small details give it away: crows suddenly flying from their nest, or a slow silhouette in the distance. It's best not to miss these signs.

One life for everything

The game's main feature is permadeath. If the Creature catches up, your saves won't be saved, and you'll have to start over. Chases are unforgiving, requiring quick decisions. Enemy behavior is determined by a dynamic AI system, so no two playthroughs are the same: the monster doesn't follow a set route. This significantly distinguishes the game from many short horror games, where it's enough to remember when an enemy will appear around a corner.

Forty-five minutes if you're lucky.

According to the developer, a full playthrough takes about 45 minutes, but not everyone completes it on their first try. The game contains scenes of violence. Requirements are modest: a GTX 460 and 3 GB of RAM are sufficient. The game is currently unavailable for purchase on Steam. Similar titles like The Darkness 2 and Amidst the Haze are available on the website, but this game shares only the title.
