Dune: Awakening (Dune: Awakening) is a survival sandbox from Funcom that drops the player on Arrakis in an alternate version of Frank Herbert's universe, where Paul Atreides was never born. The Arrakis That Wasn't

The story diverges from canon at a key point: Lady Jessica gave birth to a daughter instead of a son, Paul never came into being, and the fate of the desert planet took a completely different path. The Fremen vanished into the sands, the Harkonnens and Atreides clashed in open war, and the player finds themselves among the many survivors, with neither title nor protection — only their own hands and whatever they can salvage from the desert.

Water is more precious than spice

Survival here begins not with weapons, but with a disticomb. Moisture is constantly being used, the sun is as deadly as the enemy, and you have to suck water from literally everywhere, including the bodies of fallen enemies. On top of this, there's the rhythm of the desert itself: sandworms react to vibrations, so any movement across the open dunes becomes a calculation — whether to walk at a measured Fremen pace or take a risk and charge head-on.

From shack to ornithopter

Base construction evolves from a shabby shelter to a fully-fledged fortified complex with a power grid and production facilities. Transport opens the second half of the game: ornithopters allow you to fly across territories where it would be suicidal to venture on foot, and reach the Deep Desert, where the best resources lie and the biggest troubles lurk.

Landsraad politics

A layer of grand politics is built on top of the personal story: the Great Houses vie for influence, the Landsraad distributes quests and distributes power, and the results of these confrontations change the balance of power for the entire server. Meanwhile, PvP has long ceased to be mandatory — each world has its own PvE instances of the Heart of the Desert, so you can play without encountering other spice hunters.
