Puzzle Quest 2

Puzzle Quest 2 – a mix of role-playing and match-3 puzzles from the Australian studio Infinite Interactive, released on PC in 2010. Like the first game, battles take place on a game board filled with gems, but instead of traveling across a vast map, you descend deeper into the dungeons beneath the village of Verloren.

Verloren and the Gorgon Demon

The once peaceful village of Verloren has been overrun by evil, and the demon Gorgon is behind it all. Your hero arrives to reclaim the settlement and deal with the threat at its source. There are four classes to choose from: barbarian, templar, sorcerer, and assassin. Each has their own spellbook, approximately seventeen per class, and there are over one hundred and fifty spells in the game. You navigate the locations in an isometric view, peering into rooms, interacting with villagers, and accepting side quests from those marked with a silver question mark. Some of these quests teach you a new spell for solving a puzzle.

Battle on the Field of Gems

Combat is turn-based: you and your opponent take turns matching stones of the same color in a line. Colored stones provide mana for spells, skulls attack directly, and gauntlet stones accumulate action points, which are used to use weapons, shields, and other equipment. Spells allow you to rearrange the board, boost attacks, reduce damage, or take multiple turns in a row. Puzzles are also used to solve minor problems outside of combat: chests, traps, and locked and boarded doors become separate mini-games.

How is it different from the first part?

In Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, the hero traveled across a vast world, but here the entire story is tied to a single location and its dungeons, making the game more like a classic dungeon crawler. Action points and direct weapon use are added, along with new classes and a gear system. In addition to the story, there are quick combat, tournaments, and multiplayer.
