Alan Wake, a bestselling author going through a difficult time, goes on vacation with his wife to the quiet town of Bright Falls. During their vacation, she disappears without a trace. Trying to find her, Alan stumbles upon the pages of a thriller he apparently wrote himself — except he has no memory of writing it. Worse, the events described in the manuscript begin to come true, and a hostile dark force spreads through the town, pushing the writer to the brink of madness.

The series you play

The story is told in the style of a television series: it's divided into episodes, each ending with a surprise twist, and the next beginning with a brief recap of the previous events. This is Remedy's signature style — tense storytelling, puzzles you'll want to solve, and a constant sense that there's something lurking behind the trees.

Fight the light

Bullets alone won't defeat the darkness. Enemies possessed by the dark entity are protected by its shell, which must first be burned away with the light of a flashlight — only then will they become vulnerable to weapons. Batteries, flares, hand flares, and spotlights become more valuable than ammunition, and any lamppost in the night forest becomes a lifesaving shelter.

How the Remedy universe began

The remaster includes both special episodes, "The Signal" and "The Writer," which continue the main storyline. And for those who played Control or Alan Wake 2, this is also a chance to see where it all began: the events of the first game are directly connected to the studio's other games.
