Rover Mechanic Simulator – a Mars rover mechanic simulator from Pyramid Games, published by PlayWay. The first version was released on February 6, 2020, and the full Steam release took place on November 12 of that year. Instead of cars and buses, the game features rovers being repaired in one of the first colonies on Mars.

Workshop on Mars

You are the colony's mechanic, and your work determines whether the remaining humans will be able to continue studying the planet's structure. Rovers arrive broken, and they need to be disassembled, the fault identified, and returned to service. A screwdriver, compressor, soldering iron, 3D printer, and other tools are readily available, and these can be upgraded at later stages. Separate workbenches are needed for printed circuit boards: they are used to repair boards, clean worn parts, and disassemble them into their basic components to avoid wasting resources.

Three paths of development

As a mechanic gains experience, they earn new ranks and increasingly complex tasks. Development can be directed along one of three branches. An electrician can disassemble devices down to the smallest detail. An analyst quickly finds damaged components. An economist specializes in recycling and extracting resources from old parts. Your choice determines where you'll save time and where you'll save materials.

Old friends

In addition to current missions, the game features the restoration of long-defunct vehicles, including the famous Spirit and Opportunity, real-life NASA Mars rovers. Pyramid Games later developed Occupy Mars, and the game's website now links to it.
