Gears of War 2: Hollow Plays Gears of War 2 on PC, which has been an Xbox 360 exclusive since 2008. The port was built by modder xHeliosx and runs like a regular Windows game without an emulator.

Where did the port come from?

The first Gears of War was released on computers back in 2007, but the second and third games never appeared on PC. Everything changed when an internal build of Gears of War 2 from early 2008 leaked online, containing files for Windows. xHeliosx used this build to create Hollow. The project is unofficial, with no affiliation between Xbox Game Studios and Microsoft, and is distributed as a community build.

The final attack on Nora

The story picks up immediately after the first part. People hoped that the Lightmass bomb would end the Locust underground, but it only destroyed the winged nests. The Locust have returned stronger than ever and have begun to bury entire cities. Marcus Fenix and Delta Force must descend into the Burrow, the Locust's underground home, and strike there. Dom has his own goal in this story: all this time, he has been searching for his missing wife, Maria.

Compared to the first part, the levels have become noticeably wider, although there are still plenty of close firefights behind cover.

What's in Hollow?

The author ported the game entirely. The campaign can be played with two players, multiplayer is still there, as is the "Horde" mode, which first appeared in Gears of War 2 and later became the series' signature feature. DLC is also included. The resolution can be increased to 4K, the frame rate is not capped, and the game runs at over 200 FPS on powerful hardware.

The unofficial PC port of Gears of War 3 has received important fixes - now you can play the entire campaign.
In July 2026, an unofficial port of Gears of War 3 was released on PC. However, unlike the version for the second game, it suffered from serious issues in the campaign. Simply put, it was impossible to complete the game. But now modder DryreL has released an update that fixes virtually all the critical issues that were hindering progression. Thanks to this, the single-player campaign can now be played through from start to finish.
The Gears 3 Multipatch Tool fixes all softlocks (gameplay freezes) during the campaign. This is undoubtedly the main feature of this multipatch. Thanks to it, PC gamers can enjoy the final installment of the original Gears of War trilogy.

The Gears 3 Multipatch Tool increases the memory pool size from 145 MB to 8 GB. This eliminates texture blurring during loading, a problem common in the original version of the game. The tool also stabilizes LOD transitions during sharp camera movements and forces 16x anisotropic filtering on all surfaces. It also allows you to adjust mouse settings before launching the game.

Another great feature is the removal of the engine's built-in frame rate cap, setting a new limit of 300 FPS. This also ensures that the save system and checkpoints function fully throughout the campaign, without the risk of corrupting save files.
To run the PC version, you will first need Gears of War 3 Jacinto V1.1.1, after which you can install the Multipatch Tool

Gears of War: Reloaded 2025 remaster
Then comes the 2nd part, or better yet, the hollow version, then the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and recently the e-day version came out.
