Lightyears from Home – a story-driven, first-person sci-fi Metroidvania with survival, crafting, and RPG elements. It's being made by Denny Schneidemesser, a self-taught composer from Autodidactic Studios, and the music plays a major role.
Ice planet Glacier IV
The game's protagonist, an engineer, is tracking a man who disappeared many years ago, traveling to a star system far from Earth. The story begins on Glacier IV, an icy planet with geothermal activity. It was once developed by a large mining company, but after a series of unexplained deaths, the planet was abandoned. What really happened to the company's employees, and how it relates to the missing man, will have to be discovered for yourself.
Survive and figure it out
Not only the local fauna but also the planet itself will be a challenge: the cold and environmental conditions constantly complicate forays. Therefore, you must gather resources, craft the necessary equipment, and level up your character. The world is structured like a Metroidvania, with new areas unlocking as you acquire tools and abilities. The game's core themes are clear from the very first minutes: loneliness on an alien planet, a curiosity about unexplored places, and the stories of those who have been there before.
Music as a part of the world
The game's creator first achieved fame as a composer, and the soundtrack will be an expanded version of his album of the same name. So the mood here is largely driven by sound. It's easy to confuse it with Lightyear Frontier on the website by name, but while the latter features a cozy mech farm, this one is a grim, single-player exploration.
