Hand of Fate

Hand of Fate – a cross between a deck-building card game, a roguelike, and an action RPG from the Australian studio Defiant Development, released on February 17, 2015. You sit at a table opposite a mysterious dealer, and every card he lays down turns into an event, a battle, or a discovery.

Everything takes place in a strange place beyond thirteen gates at the edge of the world. Before each run, you collect two decks: one for equipment, the other for encounters and events. The dealer shuffles them with his own cards and lays the board face down. The hero's pawn moves across the cards, and each revealed card offers something different: a merchant, a trap, a deal with a suspicious stranger, or a test of luck where you have to guess the right card from a shuffled pile. Food and gold must be spent wisely, because every step costs food.

The battle comes to life in 3D

When a fight occurs, the table disappears, revealing the hero in the arena, and the cards in the deck transform into real swords, armor, and artifacts. Battles unfold in real time, with strikes, dodges, and counterattacks reminiscent of the Batman: Arkham series. Enemies are grouped by suit: bandits, undead, ratmen, and others. In the story mode, you must defeat boss figures, from Jacks to Kings, and finally reach the Ace of Skulls. Victories replenish the deck with new cards, increasing your chances in subsequent runs.

The second game introduced companions to assist in battle and a new set of challenges, while the first game is simpler in structure and focuses on the hero's duel with the Dealer himself. The first game features hundreds of maps with adventures, weapons, armor, artifacts, and secrets, many of which are only unlocked as you progress through the game.
