The world of Warhammer video games is growing at an astonishing rate. In 2015, the Warhammer Fantasy universe saw three new releases, and Warhammer 40,000 saw eight! Keep in mind that these games are for multiple platforms, with Windows, of course, leading the way. However, today we'll focus on a release for a different platform: the turn-based strategy game Warhammer 40,000: Deathwatch Tyranids Invasion, aimed at iOS users.
This project is from Rodeo Games, familiar to fans of the franchise from Warhammer Quest, which was also exclusive to the OS. The studio also created the strategy games Hunters and Hunters 2, considered among the best mobile games of their genre. They are close relatives of the new title, featuring identical gameplay.
As the game's title suggests, it's about a Tyranid invasion — a nasty species that constantly consumes biomass. The Space Marines — the Deathwatch — must fight back against these creatures. Battles will take place somewhere on the outskirts of Imperial territory. You'll control a small group of five soldiers. This is extremely convenient, given the genre. A squad can include representatives from different units; for example, a Space Wolf could fight alongside an Ultramarine.
Players will face 4 missions, visiting living Tyranid ships, ruined Imperial cities, and many other dangerous locations teeming with thousands of bloodthirsty creatures. Personal tactical talent and a vast arsenal will help them get out of trouble. The developers have provided hundreds of weapons and ammunition. The game also features a multiplayer mode for up to four players.
