The game's plot centers on the fact that civilization as we know it has been destroyed — along with all its achievements, cities, and technologies. Now, in a distant post-apocalyptic future, it's up to you to rebuild a new world from the ruins of ancient cities and vast wastelands.

The game features a choice of four factions, each essentially a corporation that has seized control of the planet. Opponents constantly compete for people, resources, and funds. The player will lead one of the factions, each evolving in a steampunk, dieselpunk, steelpunk, or atompunk style. Each has its own unique rules and principles, advantages, and weaknesses. While it's possible to build a new, great civilization on the ruins of the old by leading any faction, the player can choose the corporation whose capabilities appeal to them most.
