Football Manager 2021 – a football manager from Sports Interactive and SEGA, released on November 24, 2020. This installment emphasized communication and match presentation: the old tone system was replaced by gestures, and the developers collaborated with SciSports to develop expected goals (xG) statistics.

Gestures and fast talk

Talking to people has become easier. You can strike up a short conversation with a player, even if he's on loan, with an opposing coach, or with a journalist. At a press conference, you can see all the journalists, their questions, and how they treat you, and the media eventually develops a name for your playing style. Your body language during conversations influences how you are perceived by players and the media. You can promise a player a starting spot after a rival's departure or have a conversation with a striker who hasn't scored in a while.

xG and a new match

Expected goals are featured throughout the game, from the match history to the shot map, where each shot is rated on a scale of 1 to 12 depending on the location. The match engine has taught players to change their minds mid-game, defenders pass the ball, and goalkeepers are better at reading the situation. The match interface has been redesigned, with animations for each tactical role and goals announced in a broadcast-style format. Before penalty shootouts, players' body language is visible, helping to select shooters.

Differences from FM22 and FM23

Before each transfer window, a scouting meeting is held, where the staff advises on which positions to strengthen. At the end of the season, a final overview is shown, featuring trophies and fan reactions. The Data Hub section and the wide central defender role will only appear in FM22, and the UEFA license will appear in FM23.
