Omen Exitio: Hunger is a detective gamebook in the spirit of Lovecraft, where a journalistic investigation gradually turns into a journey into the depths of the human mind. New York City in 1927 greets you with dirty streets, forgotten neighborhoods, and people who prefer to remain silent even when the truth could save their lives. Each step draws you deeper into a story from which you can no longer emerge as the same person.
The investigation does not lead by the hand
The investigation is built not around ready-made clues, but rather on the player's own attentiveness. Conversations with witnesses, examination of documents, the search for evidence, and the selection of the next investigation location gradually come together to form a larger picture. Some doors open, others disappear forever, and a missed opportunity can change the course of the story. Even the characters' silence sometimes proves more valuable than any confession.
The further the investigation progresses, the more familiar reality begins to crumble. Ancient secrets are hidden behind historical facts, ordinary streets give way to terrifying visions, and the evidence discovered forces a new perspective on everything that happened. The ending hinges not on a single fork in the road, but on dozens of decisions made throughout the story, so the consequences linger right up until the very last page.
