Loan Shark — a dark fishing game where a peaceful rest gives way to a sense of self-hunting. Debts hang heavy on the neck, and in the depths of the night sea lurks a strange chance for salvation — but it reeks of blood and deceit.

A deal on the hook

Every catch can be more dangerous than the knife in your hand. A fisherman's usual routine quickly descends into madness: nets tear, gear breaks, and a voice calls out from the dark water, offering a way out. The catch no longer brings joy — it frightens.

Immersing yourself in history feels like a nightmare, where half an hour feels like an eternity. Everything is decided by choices and small details: from how to land a fish to whether to trust the words of an uninvited advisor. Time is running out, and the debt looms ever closer.

Features of the game

  • A plot-driven horror novella lasting approximately 30 minutes.

  • Realistic mechanics of catching and cutting fish.

  • A tense atmosphere with a constant sense of threat.

  • Alternative endings depending on the player's decisions.

The screenshots literally show the entire game. There's about 45 minutes of gameplay, so if you have absolutely nothing else to do, I'll let you play. It's not scary at all, more meditative.

I thought, let me go out into the night sea, dodge sharks and flounder in the murky water, and in the end, it was just one big chatter. I'm not very good at English and even less so at Italian, but usually things like this were recorded with photos from my phone and an image translator. Here they slapped on a countdown timer that doesn't even stop during dialogues. Well, what can I say? Sometimes the site froze with the translation, sometimes the photos were blurry and it was impossible to take a picture, sometimes the screen focusing on the letters took forever. In the end, I got to the part where they offer to cut your eye, as I understand it, even closer to the beginning, and the timer already had 4 minutes. Oh well, I thought, why should I cut my eye, I won't have time for anything else anyway. The timer ran out, the guy called and said, "Come back." I pressed "Return." The end. Credits. They could have put in some kind of cutscene for decency. or at least a minimal understanding of what happened in the end and how good the ending was.

However, if it were up to me, I'd still rather be in debt to living people than to magical fish. So, in principle, I agree with my ending, and I have no desire to replay it or see other versions. The game itself is generally boring.
