Clostrophobia: Vol 1 – a first-person, time-based, shooting-based horror labyrinth from CosmicPulsarStudio, released on August 10, 2024. The action takes place in cramped air ducts, where monsters hunt you and you must find the exit before time runs out.

Cassette from an underground store

The premise is reminiscent of VHS movies. The protagonist buys a video tape from a mysterious seller in an underground store, and the tape transports him to a labyrinth of ventilation shafts. Other creatures are already roaming there, all hunting you. The game leaves it up to you to figure out why you're here and who's behind the tape. The visuals are stylized to resemble old video footage, which only adds to the oppressive feeling in the cramped corridors.

Markers, timer and rewind

The labyrinth is confusing, and the developers explicitly recommend marking your path, otherwise you'll quickly find yourself going in circles. The mines are full of traps and enemies that you can avoid or shoot. The shooting is deliberately slow: ammo is loaded into the weapon one at a time, manually. Time management is helpful: you can rewind or slow it down. The escape timer also functions as a health counter, so every hit you take reduces the time it takes to find the exit.

Roulette for resources

Resources are obtained in an unusual way: through a Russian roulette minigame, and the higher the bet, the greater the reward. Retries are few, and after several consecutive deaths, progress is lost completely. As the developers openly warn, you'll die often. The game features scenes of blood and the theme of suicide.
