Pandora: First Contact

Pandora: First Contact – a turn-based 4X strategy game about colonizing an alien planet from Proxy Studios, published by Slitherine. Released on November 14, 2013, the game takes place on a hexagonal map of the entire planet, where, in addition to human opponents, there are also native fauna.

Land divided by corporations

In the future depicted in the game, power on Earth no longer rests with governments, but with private corporations and religious movements. Their wars have depleted the planet, and attempts to settle other worlds have repeatedly failed. Then a probe discovers a habitable planet, Pandora, far from the Sun, and the major factions send their best people there. You choose one of them and begin the landing.

Cities, Resources, and Research

Colonists found cities, and you set taxes, choose what to build, and assign people to jobs. Residents move from city to city if one offers better housing or less pollution. Resources are shared across the empire, so cities can easily specialize: one for mining, another for troop production. Farms, mines, and forts are built around these cities, and the land can be terraformed. The tech tree is large and random, and units are assembled from chassis, armor, weapons, and devices. Diplomacy allows you to forge trade and scientific treaties and form alliances against a common enemy.

Pandora answers

The planet features an icy north, deserts in the south, and tropical forests. Swarms roam the land, predators hunt in the air, and something enormous is rumored to live in the ocean. Local creatures react to how you interact with them. Ruins of an ancient alien civilization lie scattered throughout the world, and artifacts found there provide advantages.
