First came the tactical shooter Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, followed by Armed Assault, or simply Arma. It was followed by a sequel, Arma 2, which later received a mod. DayZA mod dedicated to surviving in a zombie apocalypse was released in 2012, and the following year, the developers, Bohemia Interactive, released a full-fledged game based on the mod. The game takes place in the same fictional country as Arma 2—Chernorus. A global cataclysm has turned all the country's inhabitants into zombies. This time, it's a fully multiplayer project, with gameplay significantly different from its predecessor. It's already been noted that DayZ Standalone is a survival simulator, and a very realistic one at that. Players will, of course, use weapons as intended, but the process of survival involves many other important components.

Players will begin the game with only a flashlight, so they'll need to take good care of their hero. They'll need to gather vital resources: food, clean water, clothing, ammunition, and even weapons, as they will wear out over time. Weapons can be upgraded, too, with a wide variety to choose from, from a kitchen knife to a machine gun. As for food, there are plenty of options: grow vegetables in your garden, go fishing, hunt, or take the simplest route — break into an abandoned house and ransack the kitchen.

However, the challenges don't end there. It's quite obvious that in such conditions, it's easy to catch some kind of infection, such as cholera, hepatitis, tuberculosis, or even the common cold. So, medicines need to be added to the list of vital resources. It's long been known that there are different ways to survive. DayZ Standalone is no exception. Players are free to choose who they want to be — gangsters or police officers. Finally, it's worth mentioning that the game doesn't offer a save option. This further enhances the realistic nature of the game. If you die, you have to start the game all over again.
