MaxPayne, games are judged by graphics by people who aren't very competent. According to you, even Max Payne's graphics are worse than crap. But you, without any real identity, took the name of this game as a nickname.
Valheim This is a masterpiece, one of the legendary games with a unique approach. It features a destructible world, resource mining, crafting, and construction, like Minecraft, but with improved visuals and physics. This means it's similar to, and even better than, the best-selling game on the planet. The combat is like any RPG, but with a fantastic HP and buff system. Compared to, say, Skyrim (also a legendary action RPG), the combat is superior because the character gets tired and has debuffs from moisture and cold. And every action depends on stamina — not just 10-15% like in other games, but 150-300%. Rest and combat conditions are crucial. In this game, you need to gather ingredients, cook, and brew potions to gain those buffs. Build fortresses and defensive structures against raids. Skyrim is a far cry from this game. It's hardcore, like the old MaxPain games, not like the click-to-win games they make for the mentally challenged these days.
The game's only major drawback is its lack of content. Even though it's an open-world sandbox with freedom of movement, it's still challenging to complete. Weapons are incredibly hard to obtain; this isn't Minecraft or Skyrim, where everything is available at once. Full sets of everything will result in a backbreaking grind, although it's not necessary in such quantities. And if you die, you lose skills; if you don't know how to play, it's very easy to die. Imagine leveling up skills in Skyrim (they have the same leveling here), but upon death, you lose 5% of ALL skills. At the end of the game, you won't be able to regain your lost skills even after several hours of play, unless you abuse them. You won't be able to save or load a save (unless you abuse them), you'll spawn on a bed, just like in Minecraft, and, just like in Minecraft, you'll have to conduct a rescue operation to save your gear, without which you're nothing.
That is, naked or with old gear, you have to make your way through hordes of stronger enemies, from whom you can’t always escape.
Your review seems to suggest that Max Payne is the height of perfection, while Skyrim sucks. That's a judgment call without even playing. Although Skyrim opens up the game right away, here it's somewhere around the middle. Because as a homeless person, building only from wood, and lacking any technology, you won't see much. You won't even be able to reach other locations except the forest and mountains. Because you need a ship if you're not on the mainland.

Tya-41, log in to the game as administrator or uncheck the "read-only" box for the folder where the game saves are located.
s/users/user/AppData/LocalLow/Iron Gate/Valheim.
If the world or character saves are not local but cloud-based, then give the game access to the network.
Without all of this, you can't create a new character or a new world. You can't do anything with your saves.

By the way, when playing in the cloud, the game can crash due to lack of cloud storage. Half an hour or an hour of game progress will disappear, your most recent saves will crash, and you'll have to restore your character and world separately from old saves and sync them.
For example, the world might save while sailing in the ocean, but the character saved while sleeping in bed. You'll have to use another ship to reach your ship (which might be at the edge of the map), and then move both ships to the shore by swimming from ship to ship. This is especially fun if the shores are more dangerous, such as plains, when you're playing on the swamp level.

Can someone explain to a regular user why this game is lagging? My computer is great for it, I've played games with much better and more demanding graphics just fine, but this one has very simple graphics and it lags so much it's almost eye-popping. Is it an optimization issue? Is there anything I can do?

beybars1979,
It's all simple here:
Run a hardware load monitor for this game to see how it is loaded while playing.
If your hardware is under a light load with these indicators, but the FPS in the game is low, then the game is optimized this way.
If any of your hardware is loaded to 100%, it simply can't cope and can't render more frames in this game.

What stage is this demo at? Is the story complete and finished, and is there any "not yet, but coming soon" content missing?

I'm launching the game for the first time and clicking "Create a Character," but there's just a background with no characters, and the buttons are inactive. What could be the problem?

The game is great, it's just a shame it's not supported with much new content... You have to wait years for updates just to get some trivial thing. The developers should have been riding high on gold after all the hype, but they're so reluctant to keep their brainchild up to date with new major updates. The mods are worth coming back to, but preferably in co-op.

@Angar Othbock, check out the dev blog on Steam. They're making the game, but they don't have a lot of people, so it's taking longer.

I don't get this "masterpiece" at all. The graphics are nice, the scenery is pleasing to the eye. But whoever made such a mockery of the main character? Even Gothic 1 didn't draw something like this. It's terrifying, a faceless, faceless thing.

It gets more interesting: 100500 different goblins per square meter. What the heck are so many mobs for? It's clearly too much. Just wander around, pick mushrooms and berries for a couple of evenings, restore a couple of huts for the night... and then return to a normal RPG like Skyrim.

The game feels like an unfinished beta, with no world-building and poor balance. I understand that's how it's done in game development these days. Thanks to Igruha for letting me play it for a couple of evenings.

beybars1979,
There was no update, the game was simply moved up the list among other games.

What's the difference between a repack and an archive? Why the different versions?
