Midnight Hoops is a short, narrative-driven game about late-night basketball practice sessions, where routine shooting gradually escalates into something far more disturbing. The protagonist, trying to earn an athletic scholarship, comes to the empty court every evening and spends hours practicing his shots instead of partying and hanging out with friends.
The site feels completely different at night.
It's hard to hit consistently. The ball constantly misses if you misjudge the power or timing of your throw, so the controls take a real learning curve. Because of this, even a simple string of accurate hits begins to feel like the result of practice, not pure luck. There are separate practice and challenge modes for those who just want to practice without the story.
The entire game takes place on a single nighttime court, where almost nothing happens except the sound of the ball, crickets, and the distant hum of the city. It seems peaceful at first, but the longer you stay there alone, the stranger the atmosphere becomes. The story is short, but in that hour, the game manages to transform a routine training session into a rather nerve-wracking nighttime stroll.
