Iron Roads is a management strategy game about designing and optimizing railway networks. Players lay tracks, purchase trains, and configure routes to ensure reliable passenger and freight transportation. Success depends on network capacity, schedule accuracy, and the proper expansion of infrastructure.
Network design
Every decision impacts the efficiency of the entire system. Incorrect junctions lead to congestion, queues, and dissatisfied passengers. Instead of direct revenue, a system of resource tokens is used, earned for maintaining the network's stability and then spent on development, research, and expansion of the map.
The game uses tabletop mechanics, including spatial constraints and route ordering. Players must consider geography, route density, and traffic priorities. Progression occurs gradually, transforming a small network into a complex transportation system requiring constant optimization.
