Letters of War

Letters of War – a 2D story-driven adventure about World War II from Wood Cabin Games, released on September 25, 2025. Based on the true story of one of the developers' grandmothers, the developers call the game a spiritual successor to Valiant Hearts: The Great War.

Carpenter from Britain

The protagonist, Liam, works as a carpenter in Britain. When war breaks out, he volunteers to protect his family and joins the British 8th Army. The player then follows him through major battles on the Western Front: the landing in Italy, the mountain passes near Monte Cassino, and Sword Beach in Normandy. The gameplay is built around hidden object retrieval, puzzles, and investigation, with controls similar to classic point-and-click adventures.

Home and letters

The second plot line takes place at home. Liam's young daughter, Rosie, remains with her mother and copes with her separation through her father's letters. Scenes at the front and at home alternate, and it is the letters that connect the two halves of the story. Thanks to this structure, the game tells the story of war not only through the trenches but also through the experiences of a family waiting for the soldier to return home.

Retro-style graphics and low requirements

The comparison with Valiant Hearts is clear: there, too, war is shown through the eyes of ordinary people, through mysteries and fates, not through gunfights. The game is linear, viewed from the side, and the art is vibrant and slightly retro. It's single-player, and includes Steam achievements.
