Tails of Fate – a 2D Metroidvania with elements of Souls games from Chase the Bunny. The characters are animals, the pixel art is hand-drawn, and the plot centers on a darkness that begins to consume the fairytale land of Fauna.
Three Heroes of Fauna
The furry inhabitants of Fauna once lived peacefully, but now the land is shrouded in darkness, and three men set out to save them: Reynard, Varken, and Koala. Each has their own style and moveset. One slashes with a heavy sword, the other keeps to the shadows and fires a crossbow. Their base is the Ursidae tavern, where they can exchange rumors, take on quests, and celebrate victories.
Ten biomes without downloads
The world is handcrafted and interconnected, as befits a Metroidvania. It features over ten biomes: ruins, dungeons, castles, ancient forests, and hidden areas. There are no loading screens between them. Controls are classic: jumps, rolls, dashes, and attacks, complemented by magic, such as an ice storm that freezes enemies, or a fiery whirlwind. Creatures encountered are recorded in a compendium, and enemies, according to the developers, have dynamic AI.
Builds, Potions, and Bosses
With over a hundred items to find and equip, and plenty of skills, you can customize your character to suit your style. An alchemist brews potions, and you can craft equipment and trinkets yourself. Bosses are designed in the spirit of Dark Souls, with detailed hand-animated scenes. The music was composed by a single composer, with over a dozen tracks. Similar to Tails of Iron, which is also available on the website, the game features animal heroes and challenging combat, but while Tails of Iron features a rat kingdom and a single hero, Tails of Iron features a connected Metroidvania world and three characters.
