To the Stars

To the Stars – a small space real-time strategy game with roguelike elements from Stellar Cartography Interactive, published by Blowfish Studios, released in August 2024. It is bright, drawn in a cartoonish psychedelic style, and is built around a race for ancient alien monuments.

Monuments decide everything

Ancient alien monuments, long abandoned and deactivated, are scattered across space. Whoever activates them controls the stars. The map is divided into sectors, and to capture an entire constellation, you must activate the monuments in each one. Rival factions strive for the same goals, so each sector becomes a race: to be the first to do so or to dislodge the enemy from their positions. Conquest proceeds one constellation at a time.

Ships and Skywards

For this race, ships are built and combat units, called skywards in the game, are launched from them. They are used to attack enemy territory and protect friendly monuments. Battles take place in real time, but the decisions are more tactical: where to deploy forces, what to defend, and what to surrender. Judging by the players' tags, there are also elements of a card game.

Strange factions

As you progress, new alien factions are unlocked, each with their own special abilities. The authors describe them with humor: the Sasharkpas are rude and unbridled, the Fringolts are chaotic and brilliant, and the Praktvoms are precise, but their intentions are unclear.
