Tears of Magic – a 2.5D fantasy RPG where you play as a dragon, from the indie studio Good Old Pixel. A Steam release date has not yet been announced. The developers cite Breath of Fire and BioWare games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age as their inspirations, and this is evident in the emphasis on companions and relationships.
Dragons haven't been seen in this world for over a hundred years. When the hero's power first manifests, it ends in destruction, and he joins the Seekers, an organization of mages that fights Corruption on the western continent of Westeros. The hero is sent to investigate cases of Corruption, which are driven by unknown forces. Gradually, the story leads to the origins of magic and the attempt to prevent a second Calamity.
The hero is customizable from the ground up: gender, name, skin tone, hair color, and clothing. Traits such as bravery or caution, kindness or pragmatism influence their lines and scenes. In battle, the hero transforms into different dragon forms to suit their style, and each form can be customized with traits that alter abilities and elements. A special combination unlocks a legendary transformation. Skills skew toward damage or support, and new moves can be learned from mentors by completing their quests. Battles are turn-based.
You can bond with party members, learn about their past, and develop friendships or romances. With high friendship, the hero can borrow a companion's magic and unlock a new dragon form. A companion named Kaiser can learn moves directly from enemies in battle. Weapons and armor can be forged and upgraded using materials, runes, and monster cores, and some runes can be combined into enchantments.
