Blade and Sorcery

Blade and Sorcery – a medieval fantasy combat sandbox from WarpFrog, designed exclusively for VR headsets. The game was in development for several years in early access, and the full 1.0 version was released on June 17, 2024. Physics is key: every blade, shield, and enemy has weight, and combat depends entirely on how you move your arms.

A fight that feels good

There's no attack button. The sword is heavy, and to pierce defenses, you need to swing it hard; a light touch won't even be noticed by the enemy. Hits are counted by detailed hitboxes, the blades penetrate soft materials, and you can deflect incoming spells with the blade. Enemies have full body physics, so they can be pushed, grabbed, knocked down, or thrown into walls. The choice of weapon, stance, and fighting style is entirely up to you: you can play as a warrior with a sword, an archer, or a sorcerer.

Magic and arrows

In addition to melee combat, there's archery and spells. Magic also works through gestures: fire, lightning, and gravity are channeled with the hand, while an elementally charged blade changes the way a strike is delivered. Combining steel and magic allows for the creation of custom moves. A large modding community has long been active around the game, adding weapons, maps, and enemies.

Crystal Hunt and sandbox

Version 1.0 introduced the Crystal Hunt progression mode. In it, you delve into dungeons, collect crystals, and unlock 78 skills, all while learning the history of the world of Bayeth and the ancient Dalgarians. For those who simply want to fight, there's a sandbox mode with no restrictions: 76 weapons, 90 pieces of armor, and all skills are immediately available. The game requires a PC headset with SteamVR or Oculus support and a refresh rate of at least 72Hz. You can play standing or moving around the room.
