Developed by Relic Entertainment, the video game Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War has proven to be no less popular than its inspiration, the tabletop wargame Warhammer 40,000 by Games Workshop. The first computer installment was released in 2004, and a sequel was released in 2009. Like the first game, only one race — the Space Marines — is available for the story campaign. The other races — Orks, Eldar, and Tyranids — can be explored in multiplayer mode.
Features of gameplay The gameplay has been significantly reworked. While the first game is a real-time strategy game, the second is a real-time tactics game. It's worth remembering that in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, the tactical component of battles was far more important than in other strategy wargames, but in the sequel, it has taken over completely. Resource gathering and building construction were eliminated from Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2, so gamers will now focus solely on planning military maneuvers that will lead to the main goal — saving the galaxy.
Role-playing elements Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2 introduced another interesting innovation — choosing actions that will have specific consequences. Basically, it works like this: a commander receives several distress signals simultaneously and must decide who to rescue. Each situation requires immediate action, and saving everyone at once is simply impossible. Yes, you read that correctly: you can't complete missions one at a time — you choose one, and the others remain permanently locked.
