Swordbreaker The Game – an interactive dark fantasy comic from DuCats Games Studio, released on November 6, 2015. The entire game consists of hand-drawn scenes and choices: you read what happens to the hero and decide how to act, and any wrong decision could be fatal.

Map and castle in the fog

The protagonist, a battered adventurer, wanders after an old map and one day sees the silhouette of a huge abandoned castle in the fog. All he has with him is his beloved sword and some old armor, complete with a device called a swordbreaker. Hence the name. Inside, treasures, strange inhabitants and enemies, and mysterious events await, all of which must be unraveled. The further he ventures, the less the castle resembles ordinary ruins: even aliens are found among its inhabitants.

Karma and the Nine Endings

The plot is completely nonlinear. Almost every choice changes the course of the story, and actions affect the hero's karma, so two playthroughs are rarely the same. Sometimes, to survive, you have to choose the most unexpected option, while the obvious leads straight to death. There are nine endings, and to achieve them all, you'll have to replay the castle more than once. The game features 324 illustrated scenes, drawn by a professional artist. There's plenty of humor, but also blood and gore, making it a game for adults. There's an achievement system with tons of rewards for different paths.

Beginning of the series

This game launched the Swordbreaker series. DuCats later released Swordbreaker Origins and Swordbreaker Back to the Castle, both in the same hand-drawn, choice-based format. It's a good place to start with the series, as it was released first.
